Yellow Gold Art Nouveau Turquoise Ring
c. 1900-1915
There’s a reason that turquoise was revered by the Native Americans. It was considered a shaman’s stone; one that helps with personal growth. That might be true (wouldn’t that be nice), but I think it’s the gorgeous color and variability in the veining that makes this Art Nouveau turquoise ring so special.
What We Love About It:
Yellow Gold Art Nouveau Turquoise Ring
There are so many colors of turquoise and honestly, I have a hard time choosing a favorite. The more limited the veining, technically, the more valuable (keep in mind, the folks that decided that also feel that all stones should be cut symmetrically. Clearly, they don’t “get” vintage and antique stones and jewelry). That’s just not how I view it. I love the veining (did you know that limonite creates a dark brown marking while sandstone creates tan markings) and I think it adds character to the stone. That may be what I love most about this ring. But the Art Nouveau nod is a nice touch too.
The Deets:
I don’t often get many Art Nouveau pieces, so it’s nice when I have one in stock. There’s something comforting about the swooping lines and ties to nature’s themes. This ring is no different. Crafted in 10kt yellow gold (stamped), it holds an oval cabochon cut turquoise stone, measuring 15mm x 8mm and with veining ranging from cream to dark brown. The stone is set in a hollow-back bezel. The shoulders of the ring have a classic Art Nouveau cross-hatch theme that tapers into a double band at the back of the shank. The ring is currently a size 3.5 US but could easily be sized (while retaining the double band look) by my jeweler or yours (see options in this post for sizing). It weighs 1.85g
Whether or not you’re looking for personal growth (and if you believe this turquoise ring can help), she makes for a great pinky ring (or sized up to whatever finger you’d like to wear her on) and conversation piece.
