Victorian Tortoiseshell 10kt Yellow Gold Ring (Antique)
Ever wonder what it would be like to be an Ambassador for the United States to another country? Us too! Unfortunately, we can’t ask this ring. But oh if it could talk. It belonged to a couple, of which the husband was in service to the US for decades, at one point serving as the US Ambassador to Belgium. We’re betting this antique Tortoiseshell ring was a part of many intense conversations (or at least, we have fun thinking so).
What We Love About It:
We honestly don’t know if the husband or the wife wore it, since they had both passed on when we came into ownership of it. But we’re guessing that it was the husband, since it’s sized larger than others that were clearly the wife’s. That said, it looks great on a feminine hand too, and is truly unisex. Which we love.
It’s crafted in 10kt yellow gold and the tortoiseshell, which is bezel set into the ring and slightly domed), is natural based on our testing. It’s very dark (you have to hold it to the light to see the patterning in the shell) and almost comes off as onyx or ebony. It’s currently a size 6.5 US but could easily be sized up or down several sizes by our jeweler (see this post for details and pricing) or yours.
Oh we wish this ring could talk. To tell us tales of Antwerp and the diamond industry. And any good spy stories too. We’ll just have to settle for its simple, classic adornment instead.
