Victorian Opal Pendant
c. 1860 -1880
Another of the conversion pieces I’ve been working on lately, this Victorian Opal Pendant started its life as a stickpin. What was once the harbinger of the 1970s and previous to that, the Victorian period, the stickpin has sadly fallen out of fashion at the moment. But that’s when my creative juices get to flowing! How can I rework a piece to feel modern, while still maintaining it’s vintage vibe and leaving the ability to convert it back to its original intent, at the same time? I feel I’ve done so successfully with this piece.
What We Love About It:
Victorian Opal Pendant
I’m always envious of the folks who can pull off a necklace stack perfectly. On me, I always feel like it’s clunky. But I continue to strive to learn how to layer my necklaces in just the right way. This pendant would be a great jumping off piece. While pretty on its own, it would be lovely at the top of the pyramid in the stack. And who doesn’t love a bit of a wive’s tale to go along?
The Deets:
The pendant, created in 14kt yellow gold, has a 3mm cabochon cut Australian opal at the center of a modified arrow flourish. We took the pin stem from the stick pin portion, and fashioned it into a bail on the back for a chain to slide through. It’s listed with a 16″ 14kt yellow gold fine rope chain, but I can swap that out for another length and/or style, if you’d like. Just message me prior to purchase so I can get you a price. The pendant itself measures 5/8″ x 1/4″ and it’s styled to be worn with the point facing down.
Show me your neck stack! Especially if it starts with this pretty little thing.
