Love comes in many forms. And apparently, so do love knots. History says that the love knot was created one night in Italy when a solider and a river nymph fell in love. The nymph had to go back to the river before sunrise, but before she did, they pledged their eternal love to one another and she left behind a silken scarf with a knot tied in it to symbolize their pledge. Many different cultures have a story that’s similar and their knots all have a couple of things in common: they are continuous – no beginning and no end – and are looping and intertwined. But for each culture, the knot is usually slightly different. This love knot is almost serpentine in nature and there’s a twisted underbelly to it, that makes it very unique.
What We Love About It: The shape of the knot and the twist on the underside is not like a knot we’ve seen before. And being folks that love old, unique things, it’s totally right up our alley.
The Deets: The 14kt yellow gold pendant is made from a former stick pin that we had converted into a pendant, using as much of the pin as possible to make the bale. From the shape and detailing we estimate this to be from the Victorian era (very reminiscent of other knots of that time). The knot pendant itself is about 2/3″ long and 1/3″ wide and we have it hanging from a 16″ chain. We can switch it out to an 18″, 20″ or 24″ chain if you’d like. Message us for pricing.
It’s definitely a one of a kind piece. Just like your love, we’re guessing.
