There is a myth out there that only those born in the month of October should wear an opal (you can read more about the old wive’s tale and how it got started here). Just like Queen Victoria, we say, “Pishaw!” to that. Opals are for anyone and everyone – not just those October born.
What We Love About It: This bar pin has some of the most colorful opals we’ve seen. So much color, in fact, it’s hard to call them “white opals”. The blues and greens swirl around and change with the light and pull out the very best color from the ruby in the center.
The Deets: The bar pin, measuring just over 2″ long and 2/3″ in diameter at the center, is made from 9ct yellow gold (making it likely a British piece), holding six bezel set opal beads with milgrain detailing and one bezel set ruby in the center. The ruby is approx. .10 cts and a deep pinkish-red in color with minor inclusions.
We’ve been seeing brooches everywhere lately! Women’s lapels. Across men’s knots on their ties. To say the brooch is back is an understatement and to say that they’re just for your grandma? No. Way. Want to jump into the brooch game? This opal and ruby beauty is a great gateway brooch for sure.
