Victorian Yellow Gold Shell Cameo Mourning Brooch (Antique)
The Victorians loved a good secret. And they loved their cameos. When you combine the two together, you have magic. A beautiful cameo mourning brooch, carved from helmet shell, with a secret on the backside – a lovely braided hair mourning brooch.
What We Love About It:
Besides the stunning carving of the cameo heroine and the tiny star above her head, we love the mourning brooch hidden on the backside of the brooch. A remembrance of someone now unknown but still kept close to the heart.
The Cameo Mourning brooch, crafted out of 14kt yellow gold, holds a hand carved helmet shell cameo, set within a bezel, surrounded by ornate scrollwork. On the backside of the brooch is a braided mourning hairpiece, behind glass. The brooch has a primitive pin back, finished in the style of the period. The brooch weighs 35.35g and measures 75mm x 65mm.
You want to know a secret? We love a good cameo. We bet you do too.
