Victorian CD Peacock Yellow Gold Pearl & Diamond Starburst Pendant/Brooch (Vintage)
Deep down, WendyKate is a Midwestern gal. She lives in the Southeast these days and that’s ok with her, given her mother is a genteel southern woman. But WK was born and raised in Iowa and spent a significant number of her adult years in Chicago, where her professional sports allegiances still lie (Go Bears and Cubbies!). So when we had the chance to purchase this Victorian CD Peacock pearl and diamond brooch/pendant, she jumped at it. CD Peacock is a Chicago jewelry legend (read all about it here) and having one of their signed pieces in our store is almost as good as having a slice of Lou Malnati’s Deep Dish on your plate.
What We Love About It:
Well, besides its provenance, the starburst design is a classic one in the Victorian era. The starburst represented spirit, guidance and direction for its wearer.
The Deets:
The brooch/pendant combo piece is modeled in 14kt yellow gold and features a 10 rayed starburst with 3 seed pearls per ray for a total of 30. The pearls range in color from cream to light gray. At the center of the piece is an Old European Cut Diamond at .10ct (H/I1). There is a small chip at the girdle, which forces the I1 rating, otherwise it would have rated at an SI2. There is a primitive pin stem to the verso of the piece, as well as a collapsible bail through which a 14kt gold chain could be strung (let us know if you’d like us to provide one for you). The piece measures 15/16″ in diameter when the bail is hidden and when it’s unfurled, the pendant measures 1 1/4″ from top to bottom. The pendant/brooch weighs in at 1.95dwt/3.03g.
We can all use a little more guidance and direction, right? Skip the expensive trip to the top of a mountain to talk to a guru. This pendant/brooch is a much better (and less physically draining) option.
