Victorian Blue Garnet and Diamond Gypsy Set Ring
c. 1850 – 1880
There’s blue. And then there’s BLUE. Our Victorian Blue Garnet and Diamond Gypsy Set Ring falls into the latter category. Never seen a blue garnet before? Well, they’re not easy to come by. And they’re not entirely natural either. There is a natural garnet – that part is true. But the center stone in this stunning ring is a doublet. What does that mean? Well, it means there’s something else attached to the garnet to make it that glorious blue color. A more technical description can be found here, if you’re interested. Does that make it… bad? Well, if you’re a purest, then maybe so. But if you love vintage ingenuity and “technology” and/or you love electric blue stones, then who cares what the snobby purists think?!
What We Love About It:
Ummmm – this one is easy. That BLUE! It’s literally electric. Not like Electric Slide electric. Better than that. In the evening, it can play dark and stormy. But give her some sunlight and bam! We had the garnet polished up, since it was showing some wear (you can see it in some of the photos here) and wow. She sure does shine now!
The Deets:
The ring, made during the Victorian period, was crafted out of 9kt yellow gold, with a garnet doublet (in blue) as a the center stone measuring 5.5mm x 4.5mm and two old mine cut diamond side stones, weighing in at approx. 15ctw, with all stones gypsy set/flush mount. The ring is currently a size 6 1/4 US but could easily be sized up or down (please choose sizing or no sizing at check out). It weighs 5.5g
If you’re looking for something unique, unusual and a show stopper, this is your three in one gal. She’s got it all. Electricity. Chunky, old, sparkly diamonds and a mounting that’s about as safe is it gets. What’s not to love?
