Retro Ruby and Freshwater Pearl Halo Ring (Vintage)
The 1950s were a “go big or go home” kind of time. The war was over. Folks were making good money and settling down into the homes with a picket fence and there were the larger than life movie stars like Jayne Mansfield, Grace Kelly, Natalie Wood and Liz Taylor. Liz was just getting rolling in all of her jewelry hoarding glory. And in her mind, bigger was definitely better! So it’s no surprise that the jewelry of the day followed suit. This retro synthetic ruby and freshwater pearl halo ring has a little Liz in her.
What We Love About It:
That synthetic ruby! It’s deliciously red and large and in charge. A natural ruby of this size, color and clarity would be in an auction at Christie’s or Sotheby’s for hundreds of thousands of dollars. That’s what we love about a good synthetic. Same properties as the natural stones. Just more affordable.
The ring is made out of 14kt yellow gold (stamped inside the shank) and holds a 6mm synthetic ruby at its center. The ruby is surrounded by 12 freshwater pearls that are in remarkable shape for pearls their age – still creamy with only the faintest sign of wear. The ring is currently a size 7 US but could easily be sized up or down by our jeweler (see options and pricing listed above) or by yours. The circumference of the ring is .75″ and it weighs 6.25g.
Do you have a little Liz Taylor in you? Show her off with this stunner.
