Retro Diamond Cocktail Ring
c. 1940 – 1960
This beauty came my way missing its main attraction. The center stone had been removed (possibly by an original family member to use in a new piece of jewelry) and so the search began. It took me a few months to find the right stone. Should I put in a ruby? A sapphire? A diamond? I polled my Instagram followers and your voices were heard. An old cut diamond was the choice. So here she is, back from her time at the ring doctor/jewelry magician, with a breathtaking Old Mine Cut diamond at her heart. I re-introduce to you: the Retro Diamond Cocktail Ring.
What We Love About It:
Retro Diamond Cocktail Ring
People always talk about the roaring 20s but the swinging 50s were quite an era too. The jewelry was larger, pretty flashy (in a good way) and the cocktail ring ruled supreme! I love the versatility of this ring. Don’t let the title of this post fool you – it looks great with a diamond at the center and would make a fantastic alternative engagement ring (with some killer finger coverage), but it also looks outstanding as a right hand ring or a ring for a night on the town (remember those?!). The best part? It’s all your choice!
The Deets:
The ring is crafted out of 18kt white gold (acid tested), with 16 single cut diamonds set in a folate motif around a center bezel setting. The center stone is an Old European Cut diamond weighing .59cts and graded at an I color and I1 clarity (there is a small black inclusion that I can’t see with the naked eye). There’s a lot of fire in this stone, so the inclusion gets masked by all of the sparkles. With the side stones included in the total, the total carat weight is approx .85ctw. The ring is currently a size 5.25 US, but it can easily be sized up or down to meet your needs (our jeweler can do it for you – see the options in this post – or you can have your own local jewelry do it). The ring lays relatively flush to the finger, making it an excellent choice for an alternative engagement ring (as suggested above) or an every day ring.
Right hand ring. Engagement ring. Anniversary ring. All make sense. I can’t wait to see what her new owner decides.
