We talk a lot about how old-cut diamonds are better (in our opinion) than the modern cuts. We love their irregularity (the are perfectly imperfect, something we identify with). We love their glow (they have a slightly different make up than modern-day diamonds and they have an internal glow that the new ones just don’t have). And of course no one (usually) was murdered (except maybe in a duel) to facilitate their existence (the original “conflict free” diamonds). This pretty gypsy set Old Cut Diamond ring has one such diamond at the heart of it.
What We Love About It: The glow of the old cut diamond and its chunky irregularity (old diamonds are not perfectly cut since they were all cut by hand). The way the stone is almost tucked inside the metal is called a gypsy setting and we feel like there’s a little inner gypsy in all of us.
The Deets: It’s set in 18kt yellow gold and the stone is approximately .20cts (J/SI1). She’s a heavy ring – there’s lots of gold here (6.8g). The hallmarks on the inside tell us a story that the ring is from London in 1890. She’s currently a size 7.25 US but could easily be sized by our jeweler (see options above in the listing) or yours.
We think that this would make an amazing, elegant engagement ring or right hand ring. Are you up to the challenge, gypsy friend?
