14kt Yellow Gold Oval Cabochon Garnet Ring (Vintage)
c. 1940s
Some rings come across my desk and they are lovely but they don’t strike a chord with me deep in my belly. And then some I covet the moment I see them. There’s just something about them that resonates with me and it’s all I can do not to move them right into my own jewelry box (The Hubbs has tight watch on the jewelry box these days, so that’s harder done than said). When I first saw this cabochon garnet ring I was immediately smitten with it. I’ll tell you why below.
Why We Love It:
The cabochon (non-faceted) garnet is one of the deepest colored garnets I’ve ever seen. It’s blood red. And so smooth! Set in a simple double gold bezel it is the epitome of an every day ring. Something you could wear with jeans and t-shirt or your formal dress to a black-tie event. Yes, it really is that versatile.
The Deets:
The ring is crafted in 14kt gold (stamped 585 inside the shank) and holds an almandine garnet that’s cabochon cut and oval in shape at its center inside a simple gold double bezel. The stone itself measures 18mm x 12mm and we estimate it’s about 11.5cts. It also has a maker’s mark of “SC” inside the shank. We’re still researching that. The ring’s total measurement is 22mm tall by 20mm wide and it’s currently a size 7 US but could easily be sized up or down by our jeweler (see options and pricing above) or by yours and it weighs 8.04g inclusive.
If you’re looking for a ring to get you from day to night (or maybe vice versa but we won’t judge) or you just love the look of clean lines and a gorgeous stone, this could be the ring for you!
