When I was a kid, I had an imaginary friend. I didn’t yet have a sister, and so, while I don’t remember this friend, I’m guessing I was a little lonely and feeling a bit misunderstood by all the adults in my life. But isn’t it funny how things come back around. As an adult, I think it would be awesome to have an imaginary friend. Someone to listen to you quietly and without judgement when things are heading south and to share silently in your joys. Perhaps such a friend is closer than one might think. Why not carry her with you wherever you go? This pretty hand painted porcelain portrait brooch looks like a good listener. Just sayin’.
What we love about it: Well, for starters, we like that our newfound friend is quite pretty. It helps to have a pretty friend. But we feel that the portrait painting work on this is quite well done and the coloring is lovely. She’s in good shape for her age (which we estimate to be about 100+/- years old.
The Deets: She’s prong set in what we think is brass (untested). There is a little wear to the gold-tone painted bezel surrounding the portrait, but the image itself is in great shape. The porcelain could be signed by the artist on the verso, but we didn’t remove it to find out. She measures 1.8″ by 1.5″ (50mm x 40mm) and weighs 19.15g.
Question: If you had an imaginary friend when you were young, what was his/her name? Tell us in the comments.
