Art Deco Toi et Moi Diamond Engagement Ring
c. 1920 – 1930
Marriage is usually between two people. You and me, as an example. Which is one of the reasons I love the Toi et Moi Diamond engagement rings (or even those like Jackie Kennedy’s, which was a diamond and emerald combo – she did revive the style, with her engagement in the 1960s to Jack Kennedy). Toi et Moi is French for you and me. And isn’t that what marriage is ultimately all about? The two people entering into the union? Why not represent that with the engagement ring? Seems quite romantic to me. *blushes*
What We Love About It:
Art Deco Toi et Moi Diamond Engagement Ring
If you didn’t get the drift from my comments above, I love the idea of a ring that symbolizes both the wearer and the proposer. It is a union and it only seems fair to suggest as much from the start. And then there’s the Art Deco design. I can’t say I have a favorite period, but if I did, it would be Art Deco.
The Deets:
Our Toi et Moi diamond ring is set in platinum (stamped inside the shank) and was designed and originally sold by Birks Jewelers, a Canadian fine jeweler dating back to 1879. When the ring came to me initially, the two center stones had been removed. I found a matching pair in my inventory that would be representative of the time period in which the ring was originally crafted, and had them set into the bezels within ring mount. The Old European Cut center diamonds are approx. .65cts each, for a total of 1.3ctw. Their quality appraises by our GIA trained appraiser at I-K color and SI2 clarity. Down the shoulders, you’ll find six Old European cut accent diamonds, three each side, totaling approx. .24ctw and are graded at H-I color and VS clarity. The ring weighs in at 4.1g and is currently a size 5.25 US, but could easily be sized up or down by my jeweler or yours. It is also hallmarked Birks to the inside of the shank.
If you’re looking for a romantic, classic, timeless and elegant engagement ring (a la Jackie Kennedy, no less), you can do no better than this ring.
