Art Deco 2.01ct Old Mine Cut Diamond Engagement Ring
c. 1920 – 1940 style
If you’re an Art Deco lover, and I am, then it really doesn’t get any better than this Old Mine Cut diamond engagement ring. It’s the epitome of Art Deco beauty. The old, chunky center stone. The straight baguette side stones. Clean lines. Exacting symmetry. Delicate engraving. All set in pristine platinum. Perfection.
What We Love About It:
Art Deco 2.01ct Old Mine Cut Diamond Engagement Ring
I can’t decide if I love the Old Mine Cut center stone (I do love a chunky diamond) better or those perfectly cut baguettes. Or maybe it’s the hand-engraving that’s in perfect condition. It’s so hard to choose!
The Deets:
Crafted in hand-engraved platinum, the centerpiece of this ring is its old mine cut center diamond, which has an EGL certification stating that it’s 2.01ct (7.18mm x 7.16mm x 5.3mm), H-I, SI2 with medium blue florescence (don’t be put off by fluorescence. It’s not a bad thing and it can make a stone seem “whiter” than it actually is). But the supporting actors in this show are the straight baguettes to each side. Weighing in at .32ctw and graded at H-I color and VS-SI clarity, they are what makes the Art Deco style to this ring.
I am still trying to determine if the mounting is a reproduction or original. If a reproduction, it’s been made very much in the style of the Art Deco rings of the time. If it’s an original, it’s in better than to be expected shape – by a long shot. It looks to be almost never worn. There is a small, dark inclusion on the side of the stone, seen under 10x magnification. I think it looks like the profile of a dove. Which to me, makes it an even better specimen with which to propose. A symbol of peace and unity. And honestly, couldn’t we all use a little peace right now? It weighs in at 3.9g, is currently a size 6 but is very sizable (see details in this posting) and comes with the EGL cert and an insurance replacement appraisal (which I feel is overinflated at $33,000).
This Art Deco old mine cut diamond engagement ring showed up in my world unexpectedly via a consignment, but damn if it hasn’t taken over my thoughts and dreams. I bet it’s going to make someone very happy!
