Antique Pear Shaped Diamond Engagement Ring
Diamond c. early 1900s
I don’t typically like pointy stones. Marquise cut. Pear cut. It’s just hard to find them where they’ve been cut well, where they don’t have what they call the “bow tie” in the middle (a kind of dead space, where there are no facets and therefore, no sparkle). But…. when you find one cut correctly? Hooooo boy! They’re so rare and even better when they are an old cut and full of sparkle. I found a glorious antique pear shaped diamond and knew I had to do something special with it. So, I dug around, borrowed from some antique designs I had on hand and with the help of my great jeweler, we created this engagement ring in the spirit of the same era in which the stone was originally cut (the Edwardian Era).
What We Love About It:
Antique Pear Shaped Diamond Engagement Ring
This antique pear shaped diamond had me at hello. The sparkle is dance-party-worthy and the bow tie phenomenon is non-existent. This stone is so full of sparkle and fire. You don’t often see an old cut pear shape, making this all the more rare. I love unique and this stone is that. It’s cut in the Old European style, with an open culet. You won’t be in a cocktail party and find someone else with one on like it. Many people ask me which way to wear a pear shaped stone (point outwards down the finger or point inwards towards the wrist). That my friends is personal preference. My preference? Inwards, because it makes folks
The Deets:
I had the ring created in platinum (which swept the world of jewelry in the early 1900s), using a design I found from the 1900s. Platinum is a very durable, metal with great longevity. The 1.12ct pear shaped diamond is GIA Certified to be G in color and VS in clarity (the GIA Certificate will accompany the ring). The stone is bezel set with a milgrain finish to the bezel. To each side, we set three Old Mine Cut diamonds (six in total – .37ctw, H/SI1), prong and bezel set into a floral/leaf motif, also accented with a milgrain finish. To the shoulders of the ring, we have continued the floral/leaf them with hand engraving. The ring is currently a size 5.5 US but we can size it up or down, as needed, for a nominal fee (see options here in the listing). It weighs 7.42g – you’ll know she’s on your finger!
