Antique Lingerie Pin Bracelet
c. 1870s – 1890s
You know I love a conversion piece. Repurposing is my middle name. Or it should be. This lingerie pin was part of an estate and I loved it (and its sisters) so much. But it’s no longer taboo to have your bra strap show, as it was in the Victorian era, and I’m not sure how many women are wearing garters with errant straps that need to be hidden these days, so the lingerie pins aren’t very viable for their original intended use. But… that makes them a prime target for a re-use application. And a bracelet seemed to be a great option!
What We Love About It:
Antique Lingerie Pin Bracelet
I love that the pins are different but yet there’s a similarity to them. They were often two tone and many were embellished with synthetic stones (which at the time, were equally as revered as the real thing) or pearls. The higher up the wealth chain the owner was, the more expensive the stones used (like diamonds, for example). They were pretty little things for something that was to be hidden and not seen.
The Deets:
This particular lingerie pin bracelet is centered on a lingerie pin that is made up of yellow gold, with a bright Old European Cut diamond at the center of the filigree work, flanked by two seed pearls – one on each side.s The pin itself is 1 & 5/8″ long and 3/8″ wide, at its wides point in the center. At each end of the former pin (the pin stem has been removed), you’ll find two yellow gold loops for the 14kt yellow gold, hand forged bracelet to attach. One end is permanently attached to the loop, but on the other, there is a shepherd’s hook so that the bracelet can be opened up to slide on the wrist. A slight turn of the pin and a little tension and the shepherd’s hook slides out and then back in. This bracelet is best suited for wrists that would take a 7.5 “- 8.5” bracelet, for optimum wear.
These bracelets look great worn alone, stacked with each other or stacked with other bracelets in your collection.
