Antique Gold Filled Swivel Portrait Mourning Brooch
Some days choices are hard. You miss Grandpa. But you miss Grandma too. You’re sitting around in your manor house getting dressed for dinner and it’s hard to know who’s memorial piece to wear that night. Solution: what if there was a mourning brooch you could wear with grandpa’s picture on one side and grandma’s on the other, it and swiveled around so you could choose who faced outward to the world at any given moment? Ta da! Problem solved.
What We Love About It:
This is one of the more unusual mourning pieces we’ve come across. Usually, each piece of mourning jewelry is reserved for one person and one person only. But this mourning brooch memorializes two folks, one on each side, a man and a woman. We don’t know who they are, but we kind of wish they were our grandparents.
The Deets:
The brooch is gold-filled and simple in its construction. There are two portraits/photos under glass, one on each side, accessed via a swivel through the pin. The back holds a simple pin stem, which makes the swivel inaccessible when being worn (you can’t swivel the pin once you’ve attached it to your clothing). It’s in excellent condition, with very little degradation to the photos (slight wear to the female photo). There is a folate motif at the top and bottom around the bezeled edges of the brooch and it measures 40mm x 50mm.
We love these two and we have been enjoying making up stories amongst ourselves about who they are and the lives they lived. For mourning jewelry enthusiasts, this is a must have!
