I thought that maybe we might all be a little “done” with the tiaras broken down by monarchy. We’ve been through the UK, Spain, Russia and France. This week I decided to revisit a different kind of royalty. The (mostly) American royalty and their Hollywood tiaras.
When putting this together, it was hard to figure out where to start? With the old Hollywood ladies? Or today’s stars? Or maybe the actresses that turned into true Princesses? Or perhaps those that just acted like it? After much debate, I decided to start back in time and work my way forward. Here we go.
Some of the names at the start won’t be familiar to the younger readers. But don’t let that fool you! These ladies were the bee’s knees during their day. It’s no wonder they owned or were loaned tiaras to wear out on the town and on the set!
Not everyone was born here, but almost all appeared in American films. The Italian ladies sure knew how to do it right!
There were the obvious choices. Like Grace. I mean, she did become a real life princess after all. And then there’s Liz. Liz was possibly as close to royalty as we tea totaler American’s may ever have. Liz loved a tiara (all jewelry really) and was photographed in her Mike Todd Diamond tiara on more than one occasion.
But her diamond tiara wasn’t her only hair adornment. She wore one of her emerald brooches tiara-style and it started an entire trend.
Her frienemy Debbie Reynolds was no slouch at the tiara thing either. You have to wonder if they not only fought over men but also argued over tiara styles.
It would seem that the fashion went out of style or a number of years. But our modern day leading ladies, always looking for something “new” (is there really even such a thing), have put their own spin on the tiara and stepped out onto the red carpet.
Which of the Hollywood tiaras is your favorite? Feeling a little overwhelmed by all of the choices? That’s ok. I’ll wait. 🙂
